I share the experience of cliveb regarding the unexpected quality improvement of the Transporter over my SB3, the Transporter really is an incredible product. However, having an outdoor setup myself, I can tell you that any gain you might experience indoors would be lost outside. I have traded out the Roku I presently use for outside with the SB3 and there was no noticeable difference. The ambient noise level outside will swamp any improvements of the Transporter or an outboard DAC for that matter. Just stick with the SB2 for the patio.
