I'm not sure that SB->DAC1 will be 'much' better than mac->DAC1. As others have said, its the DAC-1 that makes the sound. But I too have Sonus Fabers, which I drove with my DAC1, and I loved it. Some audiophiles say that the DAC-1 is too 'clinical'. I don't know exactly what they mean, but my Sonus Fabers sound great fed by the DAC-1.
