How well Homeplugs works does seem to vary depending on the house wiring. We recently moved and whereas I could drive multiple SB3s at the old place, I now struggle to drive two and get intermittent dropouts (very old house). I also find that they seem to work better in some rooms compared with others in the house. Upgrading to the 200MBPS versions at least got things to the point that i can reliably listen again. I've not tried to mix the 85/200s, though I'm surprised to hear they won't talk to one another.
