I recently did the same thing and have, wanted to get some Mac
experience. So here is what I did...
I set up SlimServer on the Mac and have put my music library, which I
rip to both Apple Lossless(M4a) and Flac, on NAS. Depending on what
machine I rip on, Windows or Mac, I use DBPoweramp to convert to the
other format. Since the libraries are on NAS, I can access them from
ant machine on my network.

The 2 issues that I have found are:

1)The music directory on the network folder has to be mapped before
Itunes starts otherwise it will repoint your Itunes library to the
default location and you lose access to your music until you have reset
it.
2)Itunes will not play high-res formats to the TP or SB.

Since I am in the process of converting vinyl to 24/96 and have started
downloading high-res formats from musicgiants I use the FLAC library for
my Slim setup.

Also, since I am not a Mac guy, I start slim on login and make have a
process to automount the shared folder at login... If I could only
figure out how to automount on startup, I'd be golden...

Good Luck
