This is a conversation which has been done many times before, suggest
you read over some old threads :)  The upshot is yes, resolution is
(eventually) lost. There are ways of minimising this (for example using
the TP's output attenuators if you frequently listen at a low level).
However the real question is if the loss of resolution is actually
audible, and whether it's more audible than the distortion introduced
by the alternative (an analogue volume control). My personal view is I
want everything digital as far as possible through the chain and then
have the analogue section do as little as possible. If I could install
an SPDIF (plus clock output!) in the side of my head that would be
great :)

The real answer, as usual, is down to your setup, your ears, your music
and your preferences.
