I have an SB3 at the moment and I find that its internal DAC bumps up vocals along with some of the midrange as well.
It can become fatiguing as my speakers are a bit forward to begin with. When I play poorly recorded material such as most rock, it starts hurting the ears within a song or two. For that kinda music I prefer to use the DAC within my HT receiver. For jazz, blues and live recordings the SB DAC makes a huge difference, not tiring at all to listen to and definitely heaps better than the receiver's DAC.
