I tried the other way of decoding , must say , I didn't notice that much
difference tho my server is far away from my unit so switching between
settings involved running downstairs etc.
It didn't take me any time at all to realise the TP wasnt up to snuff
compared to my Jolida , it is distinctly bass shy and doesnt have the
air , it's not bad for what it is tho and the convenience of it and the
ability to run headphones , ATC's and meridians off one box outweighs
the downside.
I then compared the TP to a Myriad CDP and a cheapy Technics , the
myriad and technics were closer but there is still something "missing".
Levels are irrelevant here as what is missing is not really level
dependant.
One cannot phoo-phoo the concerns expressed , I have read a few reviews
and not all are totally complimentary to the sonics. apart from that ,in
terms of construction, my tactile knob is broken and that doesnt make
me a happy camper.
I tried the DAC alone and using it with another CDP was better than
streaming??????????
It might be worthwhile investigating what is going on , the unit may
measure perfectly but it doesnt sound perfect to many.
It's a pity I'm in South Africa , I would like to hear a modded unit
compared to stock.
I actually think a wireless streamer is sort of a band aid , the
problem with discless music has been storage capacity and bandwidth. A
128 gb+ Solid state storage device plugged into a player with no moving
parts might be the next "big" thing for audiophiles , currently SS
storge is very expensive and limited but that will change. It would be
easy to "flash" the device from any source , computers , kiosks in
music places etc and the vagaries of setting up a wireless system and
running a puter would be negated. It could be used in cars , homes etc
and will have many other uses apart from music only. (data/photography
etc)
Building a cheap player will be easy and it will be compact.
Sean ....what you gonna do to top the Sb/duet/TP?
