I'm not claiming superior ears, but in a cross comparison, between a Squeezebox 3 and the duet, hard wired (Ethernet), I heard about a 15- 20% improvement in the audio quality. The bass was definitely cleaner and less sounding like it had gone through loudness plug-in and the highs had more stage and spatial definition.
I listened through Grado SR325s & Sennheiser HD650 headphones and later with a combination of speakers which included B&W's / Magnaplanars / and a REL quake sub woofer, In any case, my impression was an improved audio quality.
