I have a SB3 connected to balanced active crossover. In my case the active pre-amp (which is also a RCA to balanced converter) is a must (pro gear is not well driven by RCA outputs).
In my case was impossible to set the volume "right" without a "powered" pre amp. The CDs recording level are all over the map. The ability to change volume on a wide range (without losing DAC bits) is a prerequisite to use the "source" correctly. I do tweak the volume quite a bit. If you find your volume range small, get a pre amp. There is nothing wrong with "powered" pre amp. If you really want to know, try the various combinations. A test is worth 1000 experts. An then let us know. -- arge ------------------------------------------------------------------------ arge's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6155 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48290 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
