It has been said that the coax link is better because the optical
conversion introduces a bit of jitter into the stream.  Although it is
arguable if the difference is audible in a double blind test.  If you
have grounding issues and get 60hz hum, using optical can fix it.

The best cable for coax is is RJ-6 type.  I use a long TV coax cable
from my PC to my stereo for HTPC stuff.  I just got RCA ends for the
