No, it is not. At least for chamber music.
My preferred artists are those I find they go inside the music,
whatever the hifi setup: this is a very personnal opinion. 
For example, Dinu Lipatti or Edwin Fischer go directly to what you call
"emotional", let it be in a modest car stereo, a hand held receiver, or
"a" $20,000 system.
However, a subtile vibrato (lied, violin...) or a slight level change
are not always reproduced as they should be. But once heard you
remember them ;-)
