I had heard that it was Sony that insisted on covering Beethoven's 9th (depending on the conductor's tempo selections). I don't have a definitive cite for it. I do know that at the time, pop/rock/jazz albums were much shorter, often barely 30 minutes. And there were lots of folks arguing that 60 minutes was enough. Making it be ~70 took some no trivial engineering. I also know that a lot of audiophile friends of mine in the 70s would buy Teac 10" tape decks to they could listen to classical works and operas without getting up. -- Pat Farrell http://www.pfarrell.com/ _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
