I don't know if I am jaded but I've played with lots of equipment over
the years and keep learning every day about what kind of sound turns me
on. I also believe that as my "ears" evolve into this game I am tending
more and more toward the neutral. While this should be no surprise in
general it took me a while to get around to it.

I have been a Squeezebox user more or less since V1 came out. Skipping
over v2, I now use an SB3. I have tried it by itself as well as with a
few DACs: the ubiquitous Benchmark, Paradisea, and this year the Bel
Canto DAC2 followed by DAC3, and now using the Lavry DA10. This also
pretty much reflects my order of preference (counting backwards, that
is).

Earlier this year I owned the Transporter for a brief time. While I was
quite happy with it initially and when I compared it to SB3+DAC2, when I
acquired a DAC3 the Transporter found its way onto Audiogon. Why? I
found there was missing a certain 'life' to the music, which was only
apparent upon comparison.

So while I think the TP is a great one-box solution and has the added
advantage of hi-rez and some other things, it was bested by the lowly
SB3 in my system, albeit coupled to a DAC that cost more than the TP.

I have since found that I prefer by a slight margin the Lavry DA10, not
to say it is similar to the DAC3; rather it presents quite differently.
It probably is the non-OS that I am drawn to, not consciously as I
really am format-neutral in the best possible way and try hard not to
go into anything with preconceived notions of any kind.

My experience; YMMV. I am not a frequent poster here but am quite
active on three of the well-known audiophile forums.
