Nick - the same thought occurred to me...so a low level 50Hz sine wave
mixed in would reduce the Gibbs phenomenon in the manner that can
clearly be seen?

Seems reasonable - as the sine and square waves mix , the Gibbs
phenomena rises and falls...in a sinusoidal manner!
