If you have a DAC with coax input which uses a transformer on that
input, the shield from it's BNC input-connector should NOT be connected
to the case or ground. You loose galvanic isolation that way and I would
call it an engineering blunder. But on the transformer's -secondary-
winding, one end will be connected to ground alright. It would be
obvious when you see an insulated part on a metal case that holds the
connector; or you measure with a DMM at resistance-setting between the
BNC shield and the shield of a RCA analog output. There should be
infinite resistance.

When you have a DAC without the transformer on it's coax input, the
connector-shield will probably be directly connected to ground.
