I don't think sine waves are going to show much - it's really hard to
see the difference between the top and middle trace in my plot, even
though there's quite significant distortion there (enough to be easily
audible).  

I would try different frequencies and amplitudes of square waves.  If
they always have the same rough shape regardless of frequency, it's
harmonic distortion.  If the distortion gets worse at high levels and
better at low, that tells you something about how non-linear it is with
amplitude.

It might also be worth trying a square wave and/or sampling frequency
that's an integer multiple of the re-sampling frequency of the TACT.
