The doors were not locked, but had interlock switches; open them and
the interlock would kill the HV and take the transmitter off-the-air.

BTW -- I got an occasional RF burn while I was installing some new
tuning circuits out at the base of the towers.  The burn itself is
painless; you don't realize it until you smell burning skin; but the
blister is nasty, can be painful and takes forever to heal.
