But this is a scientific research published in the equally scientific Journal of Neurophysiology. These people don't play with their own reputation when publishing results. And no unverified results can exist in such scientific publications. This is not a marketing review or something ! This is medicine ! There's nothing to doubt about it, or otherwise we can all start doubting everything, including American Engineer Society tests (which are equally scientific), CCIR and ITU-R recommendations and so on and so forth. Seriously, only a more recent contradictory research could throw a doubt veil over these tests. I know none. Again, as Nick says, this is not contradictory to the ABX tests themselves. Simply, it invalidates (politely but firmly) the CCIR and ITU-V recommendations that served as a basis for the tests' conclusions. That's not a big deal. Science goes on and explanations evolve and get completed continuously. As far as I remember, jitter was not taken into account at first (when CD appeared). Experts were stating (proving it with double-blind tests) that the slight distortion was not something that an average person could hear. And everybody who "complained" about "harsh and inaccurate CD sound" back then, was considered as a kind of "goofy audiophile" and "accused" of being against the scientific evolution. Later on, we found out about jitter and concluded that some of this distortion (caused by high jitter) was not only audible, but equally disturbing. So, we made better clocks and implementations and we fixed it.
