I do agree with both of you (Tom and Phil): on one hand, any serious
500-1500$ dac (like Lavry, Bechmark, or even the DacMagic) has 95% of
what one can ask from a modern dac : accurate tonal balance,
specialization and transparency.

Over this price tag, one can look for something more, a little bit
more, and it becomes clearly a matter of taste whether the
price/quality ratio is acceptable for each one of us. It's not accurate
to say that a Lavry DA10 (1500$) is equivalent to a Lavry DA2002 (about
8000$) - no, they are far from being the same, although the DA10 has
already 95% of a good dac. ;)
