The SPDIF outs bypass the DAC, so that is not a factor. And as I said, the SPDIF sections between the 2 products are identical... as in exactly the same. :)
If you are going digital out, then there is zero difference between Squeezebox Receiver and Squeezebox Classic. As for analog I cannot tell the difference, but the Classic is better on paper. I like the display better too.
