I can't argue or confirm any deterioration of sound as you point out
Anne.  I do, however, know that my tube life diminishes drastically
when I run without a power conditioner.  Typically I get a few good
years of strong use out of a new set, but unprotected that number drops
to a few months - what I'd normally call my break-in period.

The way I figure it, spending $600 on a power conditioner saves me a
good deal of cash even if it only lasts a few years.
