hi,

just testing the sb classic from a audiophile point of view.

when playing (digitally generated) low volume mp3-test-signals (400hz
sine) at levels of -60, -80, -90db, i can hear a residual noise, which
should definitly not be there, considering a pcm1748 dac in that box.
this low frequency repetition noise sounds a little bit like an idling
gasoline tractor and is louder than the -90dB testsignal and can be
heard even through the -60dB testsignal.
to prove that this signal comes from the sb, playing a -100dB
testsignal-100dB(probably digital zero) will result in silence (ok,
some noise from the amp, but the repetition noise is gone)

to me it sounds like a processor generated noise, but trying different
settings like display brightness, wifi or eth set-up, removing digital
grounding and other options do not change it at all...

i am really frustrated about this performance...

actually,
my small iriver h340 hd-drive mp3-player performs better, not
mentioning my good old teac vrds10 cd-player!

your advice needed!
any mods known?
