Sure, and I think it is almost impossible to discuss the technical
correctness, or even feasability, of their solution as long as all they
are saying is that they are using "advanced heuristics" and these
heuristics are unknown.

But apparently there is a demo-version, and if I trial should turn out
with somehow positive results it could be interesting to consider. The
software doesn't cost much. And if it is possible to set up a
transcoding pipeline in SqueezeCenter one wouldn't have to keep two
copies of the music library (I would never convert my entire library
using that software), but could just enable or disable as desired.
