I have a heard a lower-end B&W 5.1 system fed by an XBox360 and it was good considering the total cost of the system.
I haven't A/B'd it to an SB3 but I can tell you I enjoy the sound of my SB3 analogue outs into the Krell/PMCs. I know there are better sources but it's good enough that my attention tends to turn to recording quality and rest of system rather than the SB3. I use Inguz to get a flatter in-room bass response and leave all frequencies above 125Hz untouched. I use an inexpensive mains filter and linear PS with the SB3. Some claim these shouldn't help but I'm sure they don't harm.
