After auditioning and owning several phono amps in your price range, I got the most satisfaction from the ASR Mini-Basis, tight and full bass, deep soundstage and resolution, but most importantly a very very dark noise floor, its musical rendering comes close to my current preamp, the ASR Basis Exclusive, which to my ears beats the Manley Steelhead in many of the areas that matter to me. I would argue that the mini-basis was the first preamp that introduced me to true hi-fi analogue, which of course sounded much better than the transporter. When I had the mini-basis I was using a Michell Gyro SE with a Denon 103-R.
