After reading this and many other threads I thought I would post my
experiences of applying Smart Gain to my 13,500 track library. I
decided to use Foobar2000 which was really easy to use. There are some
helpful instructions at:
http://www.bobulous.org.uk/misc/Replay-Gain.html

If you haven't use Foobar2000 before then I found the interface
confusing. I added in my music directory and nothing came up on the
front page (like it would on iTunes). You need to read the instructions
properly (unlike me) and go to the Library view and then scan from
there. Anyway I tried it on one album and it worked great so I then
took a deep breath and applied it to my whole library (knowing it was
only going to add some tags which I could wipe if things went wrong).

Anyway, my 13,500 tracks took 8h52 to scan!! This is on a 4 year old
single core 3GHz Pentium. Beware if you think it's going to be quick.
You then have to hit Update File Tags and it took another 4-5hours.
Basically if you have a library the size of mine with a PC like mine
then wake up, set it running and it might be done by the time you go to
bed.

So far everything looks fine, but I am going to use MP3Tag to add the
new fields in to check for rogue values.
