AS far as I know there are 4 digital generations of some Zep tracks:
1) Original first-gen 80's albums - sound dreadful to me - flat and
boring. Zep 4 is so underwhelming it hurts as is Physical Graffiti
2) The "remastered" (silver sticker on CD case) versions of original
albums - better than first-gen, but...
3) The 2 "remasters" box sets 4/2 discs - all the album tracks in a
funny order. This is far and away the best sounding release, until...
4) Mothership - another Jimmy Page remastering job - a good 5dB louder
than remasters and with definite compression added but it's quite mild
- no badly clipped peaks for example. The remastering has also altered
the tonal balance somewhat and cleaned up a few tiny things. Sounds
great. I'd like the rest of the tracks in this format.

I had the original vinyl pressings and the remasters 6-disc set - both
were OK, although the remasters vinyl was way better than the originals
to my ears. Let's face it, these aren't audiophile recordings.
