I think as a general rule, the less 'stuff' you have between the source and the speakers, the better off you will be. I have a Krell setup, which uses balanced connections throughout. I tried using the transporter direct to the poweramp via balanced, and managed to convince myself that it sounded different and probably better than going through the preamp. I struggle to explain the difference, but at the time I managed to convince myself that the noise floor was lower.
I went back to using the preamp as I couldn't live without its functionality (it is at the heart of my AV system) and its room EQ capabilities. This subject has been covered on a number of threads before, so I would suggest you search this forum - particularly on the subject of using appropriate attenuators on the transporter outputs as a safety net in case of errant transporter behavior and resulting amp or speaker damage. Good luck. -- Andy8421 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Andy8421's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16846 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63131 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
