The only mods to an SB2/3 that would really make sense if using an external DAC are either: 1) use i2s instead of S/PDIF to connect SB to an 12s-capable DAC or, better 2) use a DAC with clock-out and drive the SB clock from that If sticking with S/PDIF, use a 1.5m cable (no shorter).
