By a bit "outdate", what do you mean? Please list the gear that you're using now so we can make suggestions. It is my opinion that one doesn't need an external DAC until ones other equipment is to the point that it can use the possible improvement over the Squeezebox DAC. The Squeezebox DAC is a very good DAC for the money. Also my opinion is that is that one should spend as much money as possible on the speakers while having enough money get proper electonics to drive them. IOW, if they is extra money available/leftover put it toward better speakers now and upgrade ones electronics later when more money is available. If you can, go listen to some Thiel or Vandersteen speakers. They offers big bang for the buck while not needing overly expensive electronics. Not knowing what you have now or your budget, hearing those speakers will give you an idea what is possible on a budget. -- iPhone *iPhone* Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono's, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, Vandersteen Speakers: Quatro Mains, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Video: Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1 Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Kitchen: Squeezebox BOOM Bedroom: Second Boom Bathroom: Squeezebox Radio Ford Thunderbird: Duet, Mac Mini Ford Expedition: SB Touch, USB drive ------------------------------------------------------------------------ iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67610 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
