Looks like an all in one from the limited amount of Internet access I
have this weekend.

As others have said, don't buy a DAC. It would be a total waste of
money without any gain in system preformance.

If I was mainly going to switch over to listening to a ripped digital
music collection I would think about the following:

$500 budget, buy a pair of AudioEngine A5s

$1500 budget, pair of Vandersteen or Thiel model Ones with a high
current receiver like NAD or Adcom

$3000 budget, go active speakers only with AVI ADM 9.1s or move up to
Model 2 Thiel or Vandersteen speakers with high current amp or
Receiver.

I don't really care for the All-in-one model as there are to many
compromises. Rememer that the Duet makes a great source device to drive
either self powered or active speakers needing no other electronics. It
also works will (when using attenuators) to drive and control the volume
to just an amp and nice pair of speakers. So one could buy the best
speakers with as much amp as possible, then later when funds allow, buy
a pre-amp, Tuner, CDP, or whatever other sources on needs.

Since converting to digital files, I have listened to maybe a dozen CDs
and used my HD Tuner once in the last three years. Also remember that
Internet Radio is available on the Duet so you might find youself not
needing other sources that you might think you have to still have now.
YMMV
