My two cents is that if I had a high end dac in the the leagues of a
Weiss, Berkley Audio, Wavelength or maybe a Benchmark I would not be
looking at a Transporter. Possibly a modwright Transporter could be the
ticket if I was in need of more color and timber in my system - if your
system is a little too clinical and precise, lacking life and
excitement, the modwright could possibly cure that.

It has also been my experience that cap tweaking can also make a huge
difference for not a huge expense (except for v-caps!). I have replaced
my speaker crossovers (obbligato from China) and the caps in my amps
(Mundorf) with very good results in the area of soundstage, dynamics,
timber, clarity and noise floor. The great thing about replacing a cap
is that everything else stays the same. That way you can hear more
"into" your equipment to try to diagnose deficiencies.

For example - I knew from the get go that the transporter was clean and
precise with a black background - It wasnt until I replaced the Bennics
in my t-amp with Mundorf silver/oils did I hear just what it was able to
deliver in the way of ambiance and depth. All that for $65 per cap! If
it doesnt work I can always solder in the old ones. I have never had to
do that though!

At some point I think it is good for us all to "pop the hood" on our
gear and get a feel for what is inside. If its expensive eye candy with
crap parts inside we shouldnt buy it! I feel that as consumers we could
change the industry for the better by buying intelligently made good
sounding equipment that also happens to look good!
