I have not given the '2 lowish frequency stereo + 1 mono sub' situation much thought. I suspect that at some point, you'd want to mix the bass of the floor standers to mono, but I'm not sure about that. How low do your floor-standers go?

Depending on room shape, you may be able to get away with lower power subs -- perhaps 6-10 dB *less* power than your original. 6 dB is a *BIG* difference. If you have a 400 Watt sub, 6 dB less would mean a 100Watt sub would be fine. Now, how you determine the proper amplitudes before you go and buy new subs is complex. I guess you need to take measurements with your 1 sub in all the sub positions, and all mic positions, then figure out in Matlab (or octave), where your speakers need to be. BTW, getting everything right can be hard without at least some of the proper know-how and patience. I don't recommend zipping out and buying a few $1000 subs with the assumption that more will be better! More *will* be better when done right. When done wrong.... well, it probably will be at least a little better, but it might cost a lot more than just 1 sub :-) -- ccrome2 Caleb Crome Sr. Hardware Engineer Logitech SMBU (i.e. the Squeezebox people) <B>The future is here.
