The track information should show you if it's been transcoded for both or for just the SB3. Hrrm... simple test: I just set my livingroom player and bedroom to sync. I set the livingroom to be rate limited to 64kbps. that does appear (at least from the webui) to have them both at 64kbps transcoded.
