The PC clock is never used in any of the squeezebox line. Normally the clock inside the SB is used for clocking. The Transporter is the only model that has external sync capability. You can do it with other models but you have modify the hardware to do so.
Adding a true wordclock to an SB3 is a fairly difficult procedure. You have to add a wordclock to high frequency clock converter. These are not readily available, you probably have to design and build one yourself, not an easy task. IF your clock source will send out a high frequency clock (11.2896 MHz for playing redbook on an SB3) then the modification is fairly easy.
