I have the P3 preamp, and I'm very happy with it. I'm feeding it with an SB3 and Lavry DA10 DAC (via balanced connections) and it's driving an NAD C272 amp.
In my case, I greatly preferred the P3 to two passives I tried: the "preamp" section of a Creek 4330SE integrated, and the FT Audio LW1. The NAD amp has a lowish input impedance, and that my explain why the passives didn't work well for me. I didn't compare it to other active preamps. When I dropped the P3 into my system, I was satisfied, and I stopped looking. I bought my P3 from Audio Advisor, and it's a refurbished unit. I don't remember the exact amount, but that saved me a lot of money. It looks like a new unit, and it's worked flawlessly for me.
