Hi michael,

couple of points if I can?
I've upgraded my Sb3 to a Touch which I use purely as a "head unit"
feeding my Dac va digital out.

The Touch was a hard one for logitech I think. Marketing wise they had
a lot of boxes to tick, which I think they have mostly got spot on.
They had to get it to Market though, and on initial release (after a
long delay) it wasn't 100% ready in my opinion. Problems with USB hdd's
attest to this BUT all these niggles will be ironed out with future
firmware releases etc. You can be confident of that.

Back to the Touch sound quality...
Have you seen the thread on software tweaks to the Touch to improve
sound quality?
Try them...they work
everything sounds more open and flowing, better all round.
Not tried the custom PSU yet, but it's not ureasonable to assume it
will further improve the sound.

Point is..the Touch and Transporter are very different products but if
a Touch can get to within 95% of the Transporter in the right
conditions - for a LOT less money - that's fantastic surely

And just to give a bit of balance?
I know of a few guys who use their Transporters as digital transports
into a Dac, as the Dac improves the Transporters sound.
I run my Touch with the working software tweaks into a modded (i.e.
improved) version of that same Dac.
Sounds absolutely fantastic...but how is it compared to a Transporter?

It doesn't matter.

Would I swap my Touch for a Transporter - sure; I don't use the
Touchscreen and I miss the old VU meters! - but I don't think for me I
would get $$$'s worth of improvements in sound quality over my current
setup, if any using the Transporter as a transport only.

Of course there's a place for the Transporter, but the Touch has taken
over some of it's audiophile "Market share" as not everyone wants to
spend $$$ for that extra 5%.

Oh, and it's just my opinion :)
