Because the Touch is a MUCH better circuit design than the SB3. No amount of modding of the SB3 will get it up to a Touch. The s/pdif output circuit is completely different (and in fact very much like that of the TP). I am looking at the software mods but don't want to post anything yet. I will NOT be upgrading my router PSU :-) (but I am running it through a very good mains filter!) The advice about NOT using Cat6 shielded is good. That can create problems. I am also NOT disabling my LCD screen. The driver creates much much less noise than the VFD screen on the SB3 anyway. You can see that noise on the analogue outs on a scope - it's just not there on the Touch.
