I'm not sure it is a question of being "smart" vs. being perceptive. "Audiophiles" are, in general, a rebellious and "unstable" lot. Not always "smart" in the ways of the world. "Unstable" - in the sense that they are not consistent in the accepted ways of the world. "Unstable" in the productive nature of society. The status quo has never been expressed through music. Music is about the fringe of thought. The edges of "reality". It's about what can be, and what should be. It's not about what is "there". "There" does not need to be put to music. It's just "there".
