Well there are some fairly heavyweight "philosophers" who basically agree with that ad absurdio argument :-) Personally I wouldn't go quite that far... I do believe in the existence of an objective reality. However, that doesn't include being able to non-subjectively assess which painting/sculpture/hi-fi/guitar/car/wine/football team/etc... is "best" - or even "better"... In the words of John Lennon: "Gimme some truth..." - well, I'm not sure there is any absolute truth out there on this topic - just personal opinions and preferences. As Robin said, the middle ground is most likely to hold any answers that do exist. Art and Science make very uncomfortable bedfellows IMO. But clearly there is room enough in the world for both.
