The DAC in the Touch does not output a DC voltage on the audio outputs. The caps are not needed. This is, as far as I understand it - and as John Swensson has explained, how AKM has designed the DAC. So no, there is no downside that I can see. There is always a risk in performing mods to a product and the warranty is gone of course.
