I've used it a couple of times as a player, but not for critical listening. My first issue is that the headphone switching is very unreliable - it's supposed to detect that headphones are plugged in, and automatically switch the output from the speaker to the headphone. This never worked reliably for me, but is remedied by the "headphone switcher" app which provides manual way to switch. Playback with FLAC files can be somewhat "jerky" - the cpu in the controller apparently is just barely able to support normal controller functions (display, network, etc) plus FLAC playback. Supposedly there are ways to reduce the normal processign load - simple or blank now-playing screensaver, for example. My recollection is the at the beginning of a song there may be some slight pauses, but then it clears up after that. As said my playback was rather casual/non-critical - as I recall the sound was decent, but there is limited volume. This probably depends on what you are using for headphones.
