I depends on how the receiver works , most receivers these days actually put their analog in trough an AD converters, and then treats it like any other signal internally. In these case you first get the Squeezebox DAC then analog to receiver then the receivers ADC then the recievers DAC . Sometimes the receiver has an analog bypass or similar but invoking any DSP such as subwoofer fillter tone controlls DSP modes ofcourse mean that the signal has to be digitised again, many does not even have an analog volume control anymore so this analog bypass is not even possible . In these cases it is obvious that the digital out is the preferred way to connect a squeezebox to a av-receiver . Also in these day when everything has an digital output , the analog ins on an av reciever is meant for legacy sources like old vhs and tape deck's so the AD part might not be where the money went in the design of the receiver. So -if- your receiver has an analog bypass mode you can experiment with the analog connection and compare it with the digital and pick what you like, just remember to play music at the same level acoustically you may have to adjust the volume control differently for each input (the squeezebox's own volume should be kept at 100%) -- Mnyb -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe' Primare and Dynadio speakers, Contour 4 Contour Center, and Contour 1.3SE rear ch.
