I think the real question is, do you want the sound of a trumpet in your room (in which case the comparative dispersion of the loudspeaker and the trumpet are important) or the sound of the trumpet in the recording venue (in this case, we can use the phase information encoded in two channels to attempt to reproduce trumpet-in-venue).
