I have used XLRs wired into a Y configuration (as distinct from a Y
splitter with XLR connectors) and I believe it doesn't degrade the
signal. This means for each channel two XLR cables are wired at one end
into a single connector. Bit of a squeeze but my dealer was able to do
it. This way you're not adding unnecessary connectors into the signal
path.

I was informed by the manufacturer of my loudspeakers and sub that this
maintains a fully balanced configuration. There are no problems with it.
However, in general RCAs of reasonable length are fine into a sub (and I
ended up doing this...the reasons not being relevant here...although I
understand your explanation of why you're not going to!)
