Thanks - at least I know the software to use now and I am not interested in synching with other SB's so that's fine at least... > Another thing you'll lose is free access to Pandora. Yeah that's not a problem with me... netbooks are small and will simply replace the position where my current SB sits quite nicely... > Finally, if sound quality matters to you, the soundcards of most > netbooks are vastly inferior to the audio components of a SB, so your > sound quality won't be as good either. Now this part is most interesting... considering the fact that I am doing this purely for sound quality in order to surpass the SB - and these are the reasons: 1. I would run the netbook from battery thus eliminating any worries about the switched mode power supplied with an SB which would normally feed back into the mains and affect other equipment, or just be detrimental to the SB itself. 2. The USB 'out' ports on the netbook are its greatest strength - allowing me to use any good asynchronous DAC without trying to hack the SB which is not successful in all cases. I have a couple of async USB DACs in mind. Or even if I don't use an async DAC then a Musical Fidelity v-link into an spdif DAC would bode well. So battery power and async DAC was my plan, in order to improve sound quality funnily enough... -- stop-spinning ------------------------------------------------------------------------ stop-spinning's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43254 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88181 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
