Thank you for the explanation Desertrat. Its been so long since I used an SB's analog out, I'd all but forgotten it was an option.
The only time I had a chance to listen to a Transporter was about four years ago at an all day single-blind get-together comparing several D to As using both a Transporter and an SB3 as well as a few CD players and transports as sources.I won't bore everyone with a blow by blow but the two compact-car priced DACs we had on hand really out-shined the Transporter's analog. Not surprising considering their price. What was surprising was that in digital output mode, the Transporter's superiority to the SB3 was most evident going into less costly DACs. The really expensive ones appeared to handle a less good input signal so much better that it was hard to pick out the Transporter.
