My first thought, too. On the other hand, if you are using a Squeezebox product you can manage volume through that system. It's not clear why two pre-amps is a desirable thing. The Sumoh is being sold explicitly as an ideal mate with the Squeezebox family for creation of a non-traditional stereo system. It functions as the amp; an element of the SB is the preamp; the digital info comes from the network rather than the CD player. Required some reconceptualization for me.
