I have no idea whether a pre-emphasised version of Blaze of Glory was
ever made. It was just a guess as to one possible explanation for what
you hear.

However, your comments about the album prompted me to give it a fresh
listen on my main system. OK, it *does* sound a bit bright, and some
might say "metallic", but it's by no means objectionably so to my ears.
(And there are some places where reasonably deep bass is present - eg.
the intro of "Acropolis Now"). Can we agree that even though it's a bit
bright, it is very clean?

I've attached a frequency analysis screen shot of Blaze of Glory
(bog.wav), plus Body & Soul (b&s.wav) for comparison purposes. There
doesn't seem to be any significant difference as far as I can see,
apart from perhaps a slightly faster fall away of high frequencies
above about 6kHz on Body & Soul, which might give the latter a slightly
warmer overall sound.
