What a heck of a lot of disinformation and nonsense is flying around here.
First, Amarra has three versions, the $99 version that plays up toe 24/96 (and is comparable to a Touch). Second, the "Mini" version that plays up to 24/192, has some playlist features, and full equalization, and costs $295 ($195 on sale). This version sounds better when you use the playlist capability and/or Equalization. And third, the $695 "full" version which adds capabilities to drive Metric Halo devices, which are not only super find DACs, but include microphone inputs and such. Also, it plays music up to 24/384. Amarra on a Mac, properly configured, playing lossless music, and using a good DAC, to me sounds better than anything else out there. It's easy to find that out for yourself, just use one of the 15 day trial versions. As for why Amarra got product of the year, it is because it makes the music sound very very good indeed. If you should ask why I am not using it, and instead using a set of Touch's connected up to a DAC, I would say it is because the recent versions of Amarra have caused crash and crash here, and drive my family nuts. Touch's, connected up to a good DAC, are very nearly as good. Besides, I do use Amarra. :) If Touch's could be used with some of the new USB DACS, they would probably be very close to Amarra indeed. -Paul -- paul.raulerson ------------------------------------------------------------------------ paul.raulerson's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50346 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91692 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
